Project FFL

Welcome to Fighting for Lives. Our mission is to improve the lives of street, orphaned and impoverished children everywhere we can. We are a collective of martial artists who hold events to raise money to support charity projects for that we have developed from scratch. We are all volunteers within the organisation – there are no salaries and we cover our own fees for the fieldwork we do. This ensures that 100% of the money we raise, and any donations made to us, will reach disadvantaged children in any of our many projects. Our organisation was founded in Turku, Finland in 2005. Although we have since registered in five countries around the world, our base remains in Finland. Please support our work for disadvantaged children by donating, sponsoring any one of our projects, or purchasing merchandise; the profits from which are directed to our street kids projects. Find out more by reading on below as we highlight some of the work we do in Kenya, Indonesia and Nepal. For the most up-to-date info, check our Facebook thread.

We started working in Kenya in 2009 and delivered on so many worthwhile projects while there. Initially we built libraries at homes for street children, took kids out on recreational outings, and we even helped build a home for over 90 street children. We then built and ran a school so that street kids could receive some education at the primary and crossover-to-secondary levels. Sadly, we had to close this school at the end of 2018 due to financial difficulties on our side. However, in April 2019 we started a brand new, exciting project, using the land and the school building that we erected several years ago. This new project takes us back to the streets of Eldoret, where we offer street children the opportunity to receive rehabilitation from drugs and physical abuse at our facility in Langas. We provide the children with transportation, meals and clothes, martial arts training and mentoring on as many days of the week as we are able. So far, we have seen immense progress in the children’s health and behaviour. We foresee the development of follow on programs to ensure they have clear pathways to a better life in the longer term as well as the short-term.

In 2017 we facilitated a medical clinic for children in the Kavrepalanchok district. Here, the kids have a school but they have no easy access to medical care since it is a remote area and the roads leading to the place are extremely muddy and steep. There is therefore, no easy way for these children to receive medical care. The school in the Kavrepalanchok district agreed our hosting a permanent Fighting for Lives medical clinic on their grounds so that children could receive good quality, basic healthcare on a regular basis. The clinic has been a huge success and we are proud to be able to provide healthcare support for the children of this community.

Our Indonesia projects began in 2012, first in Sumatra, then Jakarta, and then in Yogyakarta. We’ve done so many things in Indonesia - from schooling street kids, to relocating their schools from areas of hazardous mudslides to safer plains. We also took street children on rehabilitative day-trips to the beach where they could forget the street-life and just focus on... well... being children and enjoying life! Right now though we have long-term two stable projects that we support every year. The first is a medical clinic that to date has been providing free medical care to typically, 300-400 local street children every year. Our clinic includes an ambulance for the very difficult cases and is undoubtedly one of our biggest successes to date. We have also recently supported a new rehabilitation/development scheme run by Fighting for Lives Indonesia within the House of Wolves martial arts facility. With this new project, street children are rehabilitated through martial arts practice, and are given the opportunity to become teachers who can then make a living by running their own clubs.
